Ferrous castings

Ferrous castings are iron-based metal components produced through various moulding processes such as investment casting, sand casting, shell moulding, and hand moulding (Furan & CO₂). These castings are widely used in automotive, aerospace, construction, power plants, and industrial machinery due to their high strength, durability, and heat resistance.

The main types of ferrous castings include Cast Iron (Grey Iron, Ductile Iron, Compact Graphitic Iron, and Ni-Resist Iron) and Steel Castings (Carbon Steel, Low Alloy Steel, Stainless Steel, High Alloy Steel, and Nickel-Based Alloys). Each type offers specific properties like wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and high tensile strength.

Ferrous castings are essential for engine components, gears, valves, pipes, railway parts, and heavy machinery, providing cost-effective, high-performance solutions for various industries.

Material

  • Grey Cast Iron (CI)
  • Spheroidal Graphitic Iron (SGI)
  • Compact Graphitic Iron (GCI) and Ni
  • Cast Iron (Ni-Resist)
  • Plan Carbon Steel
  • Low Alloy Steel
  • High Alloy Steel
  • Stainless Steel
  • Heat Resistant Steel and Ni

Moulding Process

The moulding process for ferrous casting involves creating a pattern, preparing a sand or ceramic mould, and placing cores if needed. Molten iron or steel is poured into the mould, allowed to cool and solidify, and then the mould is broken to remove the casting. The casting is cleaned, finished, and inspected for defects before final use.
